When driving in stop-start or slow moving traffic, there are 2 good rules of thumb which will keep you safe:
Make sure you can always see the bottom of the tyres of the vehicle in front of you and on dual carriageways / motorways you should never be closer than 2 seconds from the vehicle in front.
There are 5 very good reasons for these guides:
i/ If you can see the bottom of the vehicle in front’s tyres, it means you can steer around that vehicle in the event it didn’t move off again.
For those of you interested in driving professionally (bodyguarding, close protection, chauffeur driving etc), this is a discipline taught to all the best-in-class for these professions. These professionals are taught never to allow themselves to be ‘boxed in’ for the safety of their clients.
Even if you are not worried about extreme situations like car-jacking or kidnapping attempts, you never want to be stuck behind a car that breaks down.
